Cotton Price Rise

January 17th, 2011

With cotton prices on the rise hear at A & K we are doing our best to keep our wholesale prices on socks underwear and cotton nightwear as low as possible. Here is an article from the USA on how they are being affected as well. Reported from the Bloomsberg business week.
As stated the American farmers are expected to plant more cotton this year as prices remain high due to a short supply worldwide and strong demand from the growing middle class in China and India.

Cotton prices rose to their highest levels ever in August 2010 with prices in the U.S at around $1-$1.30 dollars

The article states long-term cotton futures now hover around $1, but Pima cotton prices are closer to $1.30.

That’s one reason big growth is expected this year in California. Nearly all the cotton planted there is the high-quality, extra-long fibre used in luxury sheets and towels.

Bloomsberg reports Californian farmers are expected to plant 400,000 acres of cotton this year.
